All kinds of really great things happening on Saint John Now!

Flights– This has been one of the biggest struggles for our economy post hurricane and it’s also been difficult for home owners trying to deal with and repair their properties.  But FINALLY fares are dropping, Delta is adding direct flights from JKF starting this weekend as well as flying in bigger planes, and there are more airlines following suit (I’ve heard rumors of direct United flights too.) **American Where you at on this?!**  I just found a one way ticket from JFK to STT for $136 on Delta and flights from most destinations are getting back to their regular (and in some cases cheaper) pricing! FINALLY!  Starting booking that summer vacation!

Events happening– On island concerts and events are slowly coming back together in normal fashion, we’ve had some great bands down here and the Beach Bar has been hosting concerts on the beach even though they aren’t officially open just yet.  Light up the Night which is our Cancer Fundraiser on island was a huge success, and we have even more coming up!  Side note on Beach Bar and Wharfside Village: They have big plans to make the area nicer than it’s ever been and as you know renovations take time, but I’ve heard they will be worth the wait.

More Tourists– THANK YOU! We’ve had a really busy March and we count our selves extremely lucky and thankful to all of you who have visited and who are planning your trips down! Keep coming down May-August is BEAUTIFUL here and we need you!

Volunteers are Still Here– We’re super thankful for all the people who have wanted to volunteer and who have made it happen while visiting.  There are many great organizations that are helping people put roofs back on, and clear debris from homes as well as the National Park.

Power Grid is getting reinforced– This was officially announced today, but we’ve seen signs of this for week with road closures as the guys from BBC and WAPA have been working with live wires to get our power poles switched over to new stronger composite poles.  We’re also getting some of the lines leading to and from the major areas underground.  It’s all wonderful and the projections are great for the future of our power grid.   The theory here is that in a future hurricane the repairs will be much more minimal and power restoration is supposed to be quicker.  We are all hoping this is true!

*Honorable Mention* There are SO many beautiful Palm Trees back on Jost Van Dyke Thanks to everyone’s generous donations!

It’s as always, a great time to start thinking about a trip down, and if you’ve visited in the recent months, please write posts on Facebook, write 5 Star Tripadvisor reviews for restaurants, bars, and boat charters so we can continue improving and getting back to where we were in September before the hurricanes.
